Tears fell down parents' faces as they watched their children walk across the stage and into post-college life.
A farewell tempo beat from drums in the stands where Eastern wind symphony members watched friends graduate from their own ranks. May 3's commencement ceremonies featured about 1,659 students who met or will meet graduation requirements during the spring and summer semesters.

Patrick Beiting has lived both on and off campus, but now enjoys the freedom of the latter.
Like many other students at the University of Louisville, Beiting lived on campus his freshman year, but has since moved into a house with some of his friends.
"You have more freedom and more responsibility when you live off campus," said Beiting, a junior communication major.

After more than 120 years of publication, The Mirage's 2008 volume will be its last, joining other college yearbooks like Purdue University's The Debris, which will also be producing its final edition this year.

A Daily Egyptian journalist was killed in a four-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on Illinois Route 127 south of Nashville. Ryan Rendleman, a senior from Batavia studying journalism, was stopped for road construction when a tractor-trailer rear-ended his Honda Accord, according to a release from the Illinois State Police.
